PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under the general direction of the Pastor and guidance from the Children and Youth Ministry Team, the Children and Youth Coordinator will lead educational programming and activities for youth (age 5-18) at Bethel UCC. This includes Sunday programming, special events, and series, as well as management of other childcare staff.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Required Education, Licenses, and Certifications
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree plus two years of direct experience working with youth and one year of supervisory experience, OR any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the above duties. A valid driver's license and access to a private vehicle or equivalent means of transportation will be a condition of employment for all employees whose work duties require, at any time, driving a motor vehicle. Completed Background check.
Desired/Preferred Education, Experience and Qualifications
Familiarity with the United Church of Christ or another Mainline Christian denomination. Prior experience leading a youth program in a church setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required at least 50% of the work period.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Usual childcare setting working conditions. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with children laughing and shouting, personal interruptions, and background noises. Occasional evening meetings and moderate travel within the region may be required. Typical work schedule includes 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 2-3 Sundays/month, and is flexible for the remainder of the hours.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises other childcare staff: recruit, hire, train, and schedule, as needed and as approved by the Pastor.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the Pastor.
Appointees will be subject to completion of a standard 90-day probationary period.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Education and Fellowship/Community-building
- Learn about and support Bethel’s values.
- Form connections with Bethel’s families and help them feel welcome and engaged.
- Lead and coordinate Sunday morning children’s programming:
- Plan and lead children’s Sunday morning programming, three Sundays per month, using curriculum chosen by the pastor and/or the Children and Youth Ministries Team. Arrive 30 minutes prior to worship to welcome children. Participate in 30 minutes of fellowship after worship to chat and connect with families.
- Participate in intergenerational worship once per month??, staying for 30 minutes of fellowship to chat and connect with families–with the goal of relationship-building and better understanding Bethel’s traditions and values.
- Coordinate with MakerSpace for one Sunday per month of children’s programming.
- Plan and coordinate/lead one special event at least once per quarter to include:
- All-ages, intergenerational activities (like pottery or bowling)
- Events that support families (like date-nights)
- Special holiday children's eventsincluding, Christmas and Easter, etc.)
- In collaboration with the Pastor, develop and coordinate/implement meaningful engagement opportunities for middle and high school youth, which may include the following:
- Service opportunities
- Youth events
- UCC youth events like Camp Adams, WRYE, NYE (may include fundraising)
Communication & Administration
- Communicate weekly with the Pastor.
- Communicate regularly with parents.
- Oversee our Safe Church policy: HIB Policy, Safe Conduct Policy. Add link to our policy online
- Train youth staff and volunteers;
- Coordinate and verify background checks and required trainings (first aid, etc.);
- Maintain records of background checks and required trainings;
- Ensure that the Safe Church policy is followed.
- Record completed tasks and hours-per-task on a monthly checklist.
- Prepare & present quarterly report to the Bethel Board; write Annual Report for Children and Youth Ministries.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Professional Development
- Connect with and learn from other children and youth coordinators within our conference.
- Attend appropriate trainings, as determined by the Pastor.

- 7.5 hours per month - Sunday school three times a month (arrive 30 min prior to start, stay 30 min after to chat with Bethelites)
- 6 hours per month - prep for Sunday school using curriculum suggested by transitional children/youth ministry team
- 4 hours per month - plan & execute intergenerational events (pottery, kickball) or parent night (date nights)
- 1.5 hours per month - attend Intergenerational service (stay 30 min after to chat) ???
- 10 hours per month - Admin to include (as needed) Safe Church policy/records, Training coordination & tracking, and childcare staff management)
