We Are Immigrants – Somos Inmigrantes Campaign
This is a very uncertain time for immigrants in the United States. Like the Japanese-Americans who once thrived in our communities, many of our neighbors are, once again, living in fear.
The We are Immigrants – Somos Inmigrantes campaign recognizes that, except for Native Americans, we are all immigrants, and we proclaim our commitment to defending the dignity, safety, and well-being of all our hardworking neighbors. Our sister church, Riverside Community Church in Hood River, was inspired to start this campaign in March 2025. Bethel joined early, hanging a banner on the church, helping to distribute signs, and participating in campaign events. We give thanks for the vision and inspiration of the Riverside community, as we step up our part in declaring, "Somos Inmigrantes!"

Our Inspiration
Over 30 years ago, in Billings, Montana, a Jewish family displayed a menorah in their window. A brick was thrown through that window. Within a short time, thousands of homes, churches, and businesses displayed menorahs in their windows in an act of solidarity. Our Goal Our goal is to help our immigrant neighbors feel supported. Read the full campaign details here. Our Support The campaign has gained widespread community support. Backers include individuals, businesses, congregations, and community organizations throughout the Gorge. The Hood River City Council has also proclaimed its support of the campaign, encouraging local residents and businesses to display Somos Inmigrantes signs. |
